Good post GG.  So much of it reminded me of the melancholy/surreal feeling around the DLS loss in 2004, when folks talked about how DLS got out DLS'd, and my surprise at some of the locals taking some glee in how DLS finally got it's ass kicked (I'm not even a DLS guy and this surprised me).

One point I can start to shed some light on is the MD transfer situation.  While I do believe transfers have changed HS football forever, and rare will be the team that competes for MNC's without em going forward, I also believe that toothpaste is not going back into that tube .  So lots of transfers are our increasing reality now, at this point it's probably time to just be honest and accurate about what's going on (frankly the last couple years some of your BG posting brothers were not exactly direct on this and got a little sensitive and evasive about the question).

I believe the source of the MD 50 transfer rumor was a tweet put out by Eric Sondheimer on Saturday morning:

Before anybody jumps to conclusions, read the responses to that tweet.  One of the claims is that there were 52 transfers into MD total for all reasons and 'only' 6 were for football.  This is some research we can do as the season unfolds.  There is a CIF website we can look into when we get bored. Or, someone from MD could just step up and be straight about it.

Also, USAT put out an article about how transfers are changing HS football back in early August.  Here is the link:

http://usatodayhss.com/2017/elite-high-school-football-players-transfer

Anyway GG, thanks for sharing that post.  As grid put it, good luck to you the rest of the way except on 9/16! (I have concerns)  But mostly, one dad to another, enjoy this ride with your son, HS sports are really special and it'll be over before you know it, and it's not quite the same when they are playing in college.

Thank you, I appreciate it

OMFG.  The Bishop is looking for and accepting sympathy and condolences because MD got 6 football transfers.

The Bishop has a similar situation as DLS..... The only decent Catholic School football team within a 50 mile radius.  The Bishop, like DLS gobbles up all the football talent, but then take to the next level by importing talent from neighboring states on a seasonal basis.

When I said that the Bishop has an offseason shopping list to plug weakness, I wasn't joking.  #truth

We appreciated the opportunity to play the top team in the country over the past 4 years.

Our previous asst AD in charge of scheduling had issues with the fax machine and we let her go after last year. Think she returned to Ga.

Once  we realized that BG wanted a game, we immediately accepted even though we had lost 11of 12 defensive guys.  We also accepted a game vs. New York area  top team, and a top Nor Cal SBG team

Next year we will travel to Vegas.  We annually play as good if schedule as anyone in the country.

Actually, my fax machine has had issues with me.  Well, sometimes....my wife does too.

Yup , let's just ignore this liar.

Did you not watch the YouTube link? At 1 minute and 36 seconds it is clear that both teams shook hands and hugged before the coin toss occurred at midfield.

Is it a given that teams must shake hands again after the coin toss? Or are some people on this board just casting aspersions?

DLS is the only parochial football team in a county of 1 million in a section that doesn't allow transfers with an administration that wouldn't take them if they could

the trinity league is 6 power teams in a metro area of 25 million that aggressively outdoes each other every year to attract the most/ best transfers in a section that has waived the white flag to enforcement

I always thought it was pretty customary to introduce yourselves in a loose manner before the toss and then shake hands in a show of respect after the toss. Not totally sure how to take the BG style of captains in this area. I see it as a bit of gamesmanship maybe. Trying to get in the head of the opponent or whatever. It obviously does have an effect, else the MD kid wouldn't have brought it up.

Too bad that antics like that don't really win games.

It's a common and accepted practice quit acting like it's not

Wait a minute.  The Bay Area is 6+ million people and De La Salle pulls ninth graders from many of the best in this entire area.  They develop them from 8th graders-they don't need transfers.  I remember an article from ten or fifteen years ago about this in USA Today and Coach Lad saying that kids and their parents were going after DLS.  They wanted to go there.

But they are pulling many of the top athletes from one of America's largest metro areas.  They have a huge base to draw and develop from.  I would make the sincere argument that De La Salle doesn't need to go after transfers and, with their own very large talent pool to develop from, if they play another team (except IMG) that does, so what?

The real competition may be going after 8th graders.  In the Baltimore/DC area that is ferociously competitive-.  Actually the competition starts a lot earlier than 8th grade....

Locally, SJC and SFA are really pushing this:  the St. John's qb is from suburban Philadelphia.  St. Frances has two transfer qbs, one from Richmond (175 miles) and the other from Morgantown (250 miles).  All three transferred in as upper classmen.  Both SJC (who you just played) and SFA have a lot of transfers this year.  Still, the priority is developing an athlete from 8th grade just as it is at DLS.

I draw the line at IMG going after top athletes in 11th grade around the U. S. and trying to talk them into transferring.  There is a lot to be said for kids playing together for several years or more and knowing and trusting each other.

You strike me as a fine gentleman but you don't know what you're talking about with DLS and recruiting 8th graders from all over the Bay Area

DLS neither recruits (I'm not counting some parent/ family friend that says "you should check out DLS), they very rarely accept transfers of any kind after sophomore year because they believe boys need the time in DLS to gain the experiemce

they do enjoy open borders -- an advantage over (most) public.

Despite pieces of 13 MNCs in last 25 years, they are rarely a top 10 CA school in terms of "talent" (as judged by recruiters)

Yes it is. At least at every game I have seen. After the sides are picked the ref always says ok guys shake hands and have a good game. Something along those lines. I did see they did before the toss. But it's customary after too. MD went to shake and got left at the alter. Even one of the captain's mentions they wouldn't shake our hands. But whatevs.

Thank you, pop.  Well said. Can't believe Sammy lumped DLS in there with BG.
