PA 5A Championship: Archbishop Wood 37 Harrisburg 10 Final

Apparently I'm destined to spend some quality time on the couch this weekend with a kleenex in one hand and a tylenol in the other, so I sprung for a PCN Select subscription ($12.99 for a day--good grief--or $34.99 for the year) to watch some of the PA finals, which look to have some intriguing matchups and big-time players.

5A final tonight at 7:00 features Archbishop Wood, who have been unchallenged since their early losses to St. Joe's Prep and Bergen Catholic and no-contest against Wayne, against Harrisburg, who lost three games to local competition but have been on a roll since 5* DE/RB Micah Parsons transferred in near the end of the regular season.

Earlier this afternoon, Bishop Guilfoyle from Altoona won their third straight 1A title and 47th straight game with a 17-0 win over Clairton.

Wilkerson can't scramble for the first down on 3rd and 11, and a bad snap leads to the Harrisburg punter getting tackled at his own 25. Four plays later, Blackshear rumbles in from the 3 to put Wood in front. They have to feel pretty confident the way they are running the ball so far.

Harrisburg receiver beat his man but dropped what would have been a likely touchdown pass and momentum-shifter. Wood takes over inside their own 20 after another punt, but again Blackshear has them moving downfield. Has to be close to 150 yards already.

Man, you've got to make those plays when you are being stifled offensively. Harrisburg should keep trying to go deep.

Parsons makes an impressive play to chase down the Wood receiver from behind on a reverse to force Wood's first punt of the night. Short punt gives Harrisburg the ball at their own 45 with 1:23 left in the half. A short pass, a scramble by Wilkerson, and a 22-yard run by Parsons sets up first and goal at the 8 with still a minute left.

Onside kick attempt by Harrisburg goes out of bounds, giving Wood great field position, but on their first play Zion Patterson intercepts a pass and suddenly Harrisburg has a chance to tie it before halftime. Wilkerson finds Donnell Henriquez over the middle for 36 yards, giving them a first down at the Wood 15 with 22 seconds left. Two plays later Wilkerson scrambles to the 2 with 6.6 seconds left. With no timeouts, Harrisburg risks the snap to Parsons in the wildcat, he can't handle a low snap, and he is swarmed by the Wood defense as time runs out.

Wood missed their chance to score a first-half knockout, but dodged a huge bullet there.

Who do you guys got in tomorrow PCC vs SJP game?

I picked PCC, but really dont know.

Feels like SJP should be the favorites based on their early-season wins, it's been so long since PCC faced a real challenge that it's hard to say how good they are. Never actually seen either team play though.

Harrisburg drives deep into Wood territory, but Parsons is stopped a yard short on fourth down and Wood takes over at their 13 yard-line. Couple runs from Blackshear have Wood close to midfield. He has 227 yards plus the big punt return. Harrisburg looks a little deflated as the third quarter comes to a close.

Ive saw multiple SJP games over streams this year... havent seen PCC this year though. SJP is solid... & DeAndre Swift is a stud. I guess Im just figuring PCC experience & talent on D will bottle him up...

Wilkerson sacked on fourth down and Wood takes over deep in Harrisburg territory. They throw to Georgia commit Mark Webb for the first time all night, but it's intercepted at the 2. Wilkerson goes deep on Harrisburg's first play and Webb gets a pick of his own. This time Wood will probably run some clock.

Well, they try to run some clock, but Shawn Thompson breaks multiple tackles on his way to a 35-yard touchdown run.
