TheMaximumHornetSting Posted June 2 Report Share Posted June 2 The thing that impresses me about this whole area of Southwest GA is the fact that it is INCREDIBLY Hilly, and susceptible to out of this world flooding... The Chattahoochee river flows through every county circled in red and even with the dam it's nearly impossible to control in severe weather... These counties outside of Decatur County and Muscogee County are also very very rural... Decatur County- population: 47,339 largest city: Bainbridge. Bainbridge has grown a lot it is a relief community for the larger neighboring cities of Thomasville,GA Dothan,AL and Tallahasse,FL. It's literally a stones throw from all 3 Bainbridge also is a major port city for GA... as both the Chattahoochee and Flint flow through Bainbridge directly from the Gulf of Mexico and Appalachicola,FL. Seminole County- population: 10,101 Seminole County has a Ton of unpopulated land and untapped land the Chattahoochee splits the county up TWICE into 3 pieces. A major port project has started in Seminole county near the old town of Steam Mill,GA... Seminole however is extremely susceptible to some nasty flooding and Horrible Tornadoes and Thunderstorms... Clay County- There's alot of old money here... Rich people have turned Clay county into a Fishing Resort and vacation retreat. Population: 5,109 Quitman County- is pretty much a suburb of Eufaula,AL. It's separated by the Chattahoochee River in its entirety matter a fact it cuts into the Red Clay hills of Quitman County and over into Stewart County. Population: 4,775 you can walk out into the backyard of any house in Georgetown,GA and see the beautiful Eufaula,Alabama skyline in its entirety. The city is built in a line on the hills of the Chattahoochee the whole place is in a straight line on the riverbanks its separated by a 3 mile bridge over the river. Stewart County population: 2,323-Providence Canyon is here. This is a major USGS archeological site that's available to the public. It's also a state park. You can actually find dinosaur fossils while walking through the canyon. However beware sometimes parts of the canyon is flooded out due to the Chattahoochee flooding and flowing through it... Early County population: 16,891 Another major Archeological location. Early County is the home of one of the largest Native American civilizations to ever exist in what's known as the Kolomoki Mound cities. You can also still find Ancient Indian artifacts here as well... it's all open to the public. It has a campsite and RV park nearby and it's a great place to hike. There are spots by the Chattahoochee riverbanks where you can find old ancient native Fishing tools from where they used to catch fish and Alligators out of the river... same as Stewart though these areas are extremely susceptible to flooding and sometimes it's inaccessible... Chattahoochee County- population:20,919. Is a bedroom community for Columbus,GA. A great place for fishing... Muscogee County- population: 303,988. Columbus literally takes up 90% of the counties land mass and is home to a major Army Base and Armory. Chattahoochee River separates it from Alabama. Columbus however is a major economic hub for Alabama and Georgia. 95% of people living in Phenix City,AL (population;48,018) work in Columbus,GA. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

(Still in Daphne) man every time I go through Eufaula it looks like its literally getting bigger and Bigger... it had some serious traffic today something was going on downtown.... But I have to stop and take breaks whenever I go through Georgetown,GA and Fort Gaines,GA. And just admire the George F. Dam and the Chattahoochee River. One of the best fishing lakes in the southeast. Major fishing tournaments nearly every weekend during warm weather. As close as you are I'd go ahead down to the beach. I remember one of my uncles telling me something it may or may not have been during his military training. But he said one of the instructors stressed to them that "You absolutely never enter shark prone waters even if its a Life or Death scenario with wounds especially if its still bleeding or capable of bleeding the sharks will see you as prey it triggers their hunting instinct and they will absolutely fuck your day up" Maybe @Horsefly or @DevilDog know... I’m not a specialist in this dept, but I do know that sharks sense of smell is ridiculously strong. No bueno to be swimming with an open wound in certain waters at certain seasonal periods.
