Power rankings are going to be skewed when you play both Bosco and MD twice, regardless of whether you win or lose. Calpreps needs to penalize teams more for losing, regardless of who you lose to.

This post is so wrong on so many levels.

Basically promoting the "Folsom model" of attaining high poll placement.

How?!

That's how it should be...

You dont deserve points for losing Sammy....

This is back-of-the-napkin math but....

If there was no 31-point cap on losses in calpreps, then Orange Lutheran would drop a whole 5.3 rating points.

Dropping them from #28 to #49.

That's why he's opposed to it. Actual results actually mattering does his agenda no good.

Unfortunately for you (Tier 6 ability to gauge teams), the professionals who program the computers, and the subsequent resulting AI that henceforth builds and provides arguably the best and most accurate format for rating teams, disagree.

So the 5th place Trinity League team would then be #48 in the country.   I can live with that.  Bozo.

I anticipated this response.

The 5.8 point drop is *without* factoring in the scaling, clustering and playoff boost benefits that they *also* receive.

So one simple tweak drops them 21 places in the ordinal ranking.

And this for a team that even homers like sammy can't defend.

Everybody knows Orange Lutheran sucks and isn't a top 50 or 100 team.

Give Orange Lutheran credit though.

They only gave up 600 yards of total offense to St. John Bosco.

St. John Bosco football uses big plays to beat Orange Lutheran

Luke, who finished with 115 yards rushing and 138 yards receiving, scored four touchdowns, including three in the first half, leading St. John Bosco to a 49-25 victory against Orange Lutheran at Orange Coast College on Friday night. The Braves finished with 600 yards of total offense.

SJB and CC game examples in this thread certainly depict a Massey ratings 501 ranking in defense in the nation… and that’s with apologies to number 502.  OLU’s power rating was 114 in nation.  Not horrible, just more realistic with that defense not worthy of being a top 100 squad.  Massey bringing a reality check to Cali perhaps, but are “balls deep” into TX.

Both algorithms need a calibration adjustment or three.   Freeman needs to drop CA and GA, while Massey needs to wake up from an episode of TX hsfb Fantasy Island.

This is laughable.  In What year was the CIFSS D-2 Champion ever NOT in the Top 50 or 100?

Keep playing checkers my friend.

I went ahead and calculated Orange Lutheran's rating without the 15-point floor and 31-point ceiling.

Again, this is back-of-the-napkin math.

If there was no cap or floor used by calpreps then Orange Lutheran's rating would drop from 68.7 points to 59.3 points.

This would correspond with a drop from #28 to #66.

Again, this is *without* all of the other advantages that they get that aren't calculable.

That’s essentially what the two algorithms do with regards to predict a matchup analysis.

They toss out all the safety measures in a tail happy rear drive sports car and it’s up to the driver only for lap times challenge and each lap of pass, stats honed in on most recent performance ability as a predictor of overall strength… hence a power rating.

Sammy you'll give Servite points for getting blown out...

You'll give OLU points for getting blown out by SJB but Beat down MC for playing them 1point  closer than OLU did...

All I'm saying is keep the same damn energy across the board...

Don't applaud OLU then Beat down MC.

Kinda like STA playoff division.  Except that the teams in the CIFSS D-2 were rated much higher by ALL polls and ratings.

Do you prefer the red or black checkers?

What D2 team was rated higher than STA?

Also we've been over this...

California teams get inflated ratings so of course every team They played is gonna be higher than STA...
