Doesn’t have to be a full split.  Using the same approach as they do now, grab the top 8 private schools at the end of the year and make a private open bracket.  In the D1 bracket, there would likely still be some privates.   Maybe you make a provision that public schools that would be ranked within the top 8 private bracket have the opportunity to opt into the open bracket.  Maybe limit it to 3 schools.  I’m sure the bottom 3 schools in the 8 team private bracket would like to go to the D1 bracket instead.

This is how the CCS in Nor Cal Does it…. Teams “Opt In” for the Open which is like a 6 team Bracket and the rest go to lower divisions I think the 4 highest raked teams by some formula are in and the other 2 opt in….

San Diego also does a similar Open bracket where it is only 4 teams….

It can be done, you don’t need a 8 or 16 team bracket to tell us that MD and SJB are the top 2 teams in the SS and belong in the Open SBG….

Bingo. MD, SJB, Sierra Canyon, Cathedral Catholic, Servite, Alemany, Serra etc would be a great playoff bracket. Winner gets De La Salle. Sounds good to me.

When Nolan Ryan was a high school soph pitcher in his first game he cracked the lead off batters helmet, then he hit the 2nd batter and broke his arm.  The third batter declined to get in the box citing concern for his safety.

The third batter = Sierra Canyon, CC, Servite, Alemeny, Serra all tanking their rankings to qualify for the D-1 playoffs.   No one wants that

😂😂😂😂

You’d fit in great on the OC housewife board! But this is a national football board. Please act accordingly.

Just stop keeping score then and hand everyone a trophy

No one is saying that but look at the playoff results over the past 5 years compared to the 50 years before that.  If you can't see a horrifying difference in competitive equity then..............

Status quo will potentially kill HS football in D-1.

I thought SJB was in serious trouble this because servite is going to get em? Just simply rephrasing what you said earlier TODAY.

Without significant changes to transfer rules, more privates will continue to improve at a faster rate than public’s,  and the 8 team private bracket would be formidable. Look at Sierra canyon, just a couple of years ago D3.  Cathedral SD will continue to improve and will be more consistently good.

SC doesn’t fear SJB or MD.They are a program on the rise. They played a good half against SJB last year. They now know what it’s going to take

DLS would be much better suited to play the winner of the D-1 Bracket (sans MD and SJB)

The last two games in sbg were very entertaining games . In 2018 , Dela had all the momentum deep in 4th , down 28-21. They just needed the ball back, but that great catch by Bru sealed the deal . In 2019 , Dela had so many chances to actually have  a good chance at beating SJB . That 14 point swing at the end of game was flukish , and actually gave the National title to SJB . A  seven point win vs Dela would have been argued in the forum that STA had a 10 point win vs dela, and they should have been awarded the mythical title . I just loved how Dela , despite all the failed chances in the game , had Bosco's defense looking like a whooped , beaten foe . And these aren't by any means the great Dela teams . So why should Dela be crying about playing these teams ?  Servite might be closer than you think . Beating a Folsom or MT or Serra would not enhance their program in my opinion

When was the last time DLS won their final game?

There is an article that came about around a year ago that proposed using a system that grouped the playoff divisions solely on how a team has performed against its level of competition that year.

“The proposal includes a formula that calculates the strength of each team based entirely on the regular season results of the current year. The formula, which includes a school’s win-loss record, its strength of schedule and quality of wins, among other things, will allow teams to be subsequently placed into divisional brackets that will be released the Sunday after the regular season ends.”

Unless, something similar has already been attempted, would this format have any hopes of improving the playoffs?

100%!!!!…. It’s easy to forget that #11 for DLS Broke his foot the day before the game in Practice…. He was the Best Player in Cali other then BRU and he played Both Ways…. He was a 14 point swing in that game ( 7 on Offense and 7 on Defense ) if healthy….

In 2019 Garrett was the best player on the Field Next to DJ…. DLS was in that game and lost it in “The Margins”…. Same with STA, If the DLS QB complete just 2 passes that were wide open TD’s DLS wins that game…..

DLS doesn’t need to play 1-AA, They would rather try to beat the best in The Open and lose instead of playing for 3rd Best and winning….

At some point DLS will get the couple of players they need and win the Open again, I have no doubt…. 🍻

And like I posted before , bring back the Norcal play in game , eliminating all the noise . If they don't win on the field than so be it . Let the better team represent in the sbg .

Sierra Canyon is a joke.  They have zero relevant wins.  All wanna be hype.  Same as St. Bernard last year.  You should know better ararar

St.Bernard? 😂 not even in the same ballpark. One was a fly by night program run by a coach who has cheated the system so much it would make Rush Probst blush. The other has been steadily building its program for years to the point they actually played well against one of the teams that makes you piss yourself

Definitely!!!… Or Create a Nor Cal Open where you take the top 2 teams from each section and have a 6-8 Open Bracket….

Again, the issue is No One in Nor Cal wants to play in The Open SBG against MD or SJB…. So there is no motivation…. Everyone would prefer DLS do that heavy lifting….

This sounds absolutely stupid. Football in California runs in cycles. 10 years ago in 2011, Servite was the number #1 program in CIFSS, LB Poly was the strongest public in the state, MD hadn't won a championship since 1999 and Bosco wasn't relevant. 10 years later, things have drastically changed. 10 years from now, its going to be completely different. Everyone is panicking for no reason.
