Ohio professor reprimanded by Dean for refusing to use student's preferred pronouns

You're about a dozen posts in and you're still not in the game.

If I need to explain to you the relationship between religious convictions and 1A issues, maybe you should sit this one out.

BUT, you really haven't explained anything at all. Peter Wood explains it. AND, it's like I said. It's about the professor and his kind. If a professor rejects an idea he can call you whatever he wants or nothing at all, FOR NOW.......a big win for everyone, I guess.

"The NAS President Peter Wood explains, “This isn’t just about a pronoun, it’s about what that pronoun means. It’s about endorsing an ideology. Forcing the use of a pronoun based on gender perceptions rather than sex is forcing the professor to endorse the idea that he rejects—the idea that individuals decide for themselves what sex or gender they are. And this is happening in a philosophy class, where adults should be able to freely and vigorously debate hot-button topics like gender identity.”

No, you're still not getting it.

It's not about the professor and his kind. It's about the 1A, which is about all of us.

And, no, it doesn't follow that the professor can call his students whatever he wants.

To say that a public university cannot make pronoun use a condition of his employment, since its use is not only controverted but also implies propositions which are inconsistent with his religious convictions, is not to say that he can call his students whatever he wants.

Yeah, I get it.....it's not hard.

It's the same old dance.

...conservative Christians using the courts to enshrine their bigotry and it's getting old really when you think about it.

Like I said.......no skin off my nose, but don't lose track of the real issue.

Chip is STILL too stupid to understand that the part of his faith that the professor was referring to had to do with lying.

For a fucking imbecile like Chip "Thou shall not lie" is bigotry.  🤣

If stupidity were painful, Chip would live in eternal agony.

"...refer to a student in such a way that I imply something that is not true, that I know to be false, to effectively lie, and so violate my conscience as a philosopher and as a Christian."

I don't expect anyone that supports/supported a "guy" that has made a mockery out of the 10 Commandments his entire life to grasp the real issue on anything.

It's all hypocritical bullshit.

Dark times when you are celebrated for being gay, trans, atheist etc but mocked, ridiculed and bullied for standing up for the faith you believe in.

This is a test of good vs evil. This professor is on the right side of history. I hope his strength and courage to not cave to the mob will provide the same to others who might be bullied by the evil in society.

Maybe you should explain it to me.

This was the issue and still is.....Christian Faith!

Like anything else though after it's twisted into a knot, it becomes a 1A issue.

The donald/bush Court agreed with this guy's religious beliefs and that's it.

" he refused her request, saying his Christian faith prevented him from talking about gender in a way he believed to be false. He instead proposed calling her only by her last name."

This was Your Issue. Not Our issue. Please don't generalize Us into Your group. See how that works.

The far right's radicalization of Religion is total bullshit.....when you look at these damn people they ALL look like white fruit cakes.  Very hard/tough on the eyes.

These people parade their interpretations of the 1A and 2A around like they were part of the Holy Scripture and they totally ignore and totally hide what's actually in the Bible.

Guess what? They can kiss my ass and cry foul all day long!

He is an unapologetic racist.

He thinks "Thou shalt not lie" is some kind of oppressive religious dogma.

He doesn't like that this country was founded with a respect for religious freedoms.

He is a complete asshat.
