Tough to pick against Burrow and the kind of year he and that he and the LSU offense were having. The game would come down to which defense can hold up. Going with LSU. (4) 2010 Oregon vs. (5) 2017 Clemson The recent Clemson teams (not so much the 2019 group, but 2015-2018) are the kind of teams built to give those Chip Kelly Oregon teams major issues. Oregon struggled against Auburn in the trenches and pretty much everywhere else. Receivers too big for Oregon DB’s, Cam was bigger than the Oregon LBs, etc. you get the point. Clemson’s DL alone would eat up the Oregon O. And the offense would also control the LOS and move the Ducks around. Clemson dominates this one. (3) 2016 Alabama vs. (11) 2014 Alabama 2016 Bama with the one. A fierce defense that was more efficient than the 2001 Miami Hurricanes and the mighty 2011 Bama D would own this match. I have a graphic from 2016 that backs this claim. (2) 2018 Clemson vs. (7) 2011 Oregon Much like the 2017 Clemson vs 2010 Oregon match, but worse. Oregon would be bulldozed off the line up front from the first to last whistle. No more of an explanation needed. EASY win for Clemson. (1) 2016 Clemson vs. (9) 2013 Michigan State Michigan State had a very good defense but Clemson top to bottom would have been too good. Watson plus all of those weapons along with a very good defense and the horses up front to match anything MSU throws at them. (4) 2011 LSU vs. (5) 2010 TCU LSU would dominate this match. A superior team in terms of talent with one of the best defenses of all time and a steady at best offense that was just good enough to get the job done. It took a great Bama team to finally stop LSU. LSU wins this easily. (3) 2018 Alabama vs. (11) 2016 Oklahoma Similar game to the 2018 OU vs Bama game, but a greater margin-of-victory for Bama. OU did not have the defense to slow down Bama. Would have taken a much better defensive team like Georgia or Clemson (as we saw happen for real in 2018). (2) 2010 Auburn vs. (7) 2015 Clemson I like Watson coming out on top in this QB battle. Clemson’s offense was more balanced and could attack the good but far from great Auburn D in many ways. Clemson had the personell up front in their front 7 (as well as a good coach) to stand up to Newton and contain him. Unlike Oregon, Newton and his OL are not going to push these guys around. The game is interesting at first, but Clemson’s O tears through the Auburn D while Clemson’s D neutralizes Auburn’s O with stout defensive front 7 play.
