Once again up for discussion the 2005 national rankings in hindsight.

Please share Video/articles/forgotten backstories of top teams and or top players on said teams.

What are your thoughts on the rankings?  Who was underrated or overrated in your opinion?

Human polls vs Computers...which is more accurate? (I think we can all say in 2004 the human polls were 20x better even if they weren’t that great)

Prepnation

South Lake Carrol was champ.   Can’t find the full list for them,  anyone know a place that might have the full prepnation rankings??

HS football America didn’t start until 2012

What polls am I missing?  I know I’m missing a few.

Someone explain where Independence went on the second list. Do they not exist to the makers of the second list or something? And also, finally a national champion that is undefeated...I'm looking at you, 2019 SJB.

Lakeland (and I’m guessing Fl in general) still getting no love from the computers.

I’m at work, but I’ll post a bunch of videos etc later on today!

Most of those polls were laughable.  Which is why the PG Comp poll is easily the only way (besides national playoff tourney) to rank the teams with some sense of accuracy.

The 2005 Brophy Prep team was notable for being the first champion of the largest division after Arizona moved to a seven classification system; oddly enough the 5A-2 champion that year (14-0 North Canyon) was only placed in the lower division after a handful of schools petitioned up (each conference was "capped" at 32 schools and this resulted in schools with 5A-1 enrollments-North Canyon and Phoenix North were the most notable, with NC being a long-time region rival of Brophy before realignment-being placed in the smaller conference). Brophy's only loss of the year was a 20-19 setback to Mesa Westwood and they clinched the title with a final drive against undefeated Hamilton in a matchup still talked about as one of the great finishes in Arizona title game history.

This Brophy team was known for a big o-line and overcame a midseason quarterback switch when the previous season's starter transferred to Loyola near LA. Here's the full broadcast of their title game win:

The 2005 football season was my senior year at De La, most of my closest friends/brothers were on that team. They will be the first to admit that they had no business being ranked anywhere near the top 25. It was a solid local season but this team looking back had to have the least amount of top end talent out of the last 20 years.

Many people look at the 2004 season as their worst however 2005 had less talent. The 2004 team was dealing with a ton of off field tragedy.

Just my 2 cents

Their offensive line was very good but their skill players were not.

It's rare that you find a team with both.

Hoover was great in the playoffs that year. Lost early in the year to Tuscaloosa County then beat them 42-8 in the playoffs. Current HC at Tennessee Jeremy Pruitt was the DC fans wanted him fired at halftime of the regular season game.

Didn’t hoover beat Nease w/Tebow that year?

Edit found it.  Game was great until the 4th then Hoover pulled away.    Nease won a state title that year I think in 4A.

(Fairly one sided highlights unfortunately)

That was Brophy in a nutshell from 2006 to 2009. Had one legit two-way back that went to Colorado but otherwise they were not overwhelming with their athleticism.

That year's North Canyon team was probably better from a raw talent perspective but were lacking at quarterback and dicked around with lesser competition throughout the year.

Yes opening game. Hoover's depth took over late 3rd. It was high 90's that day. Field turf was 130.  Tebow was elite. I saw his dad after the game on the field he had a Florida shirt on. I knew then he was not coming to Alabama.  Several fans were taken out because of heat stroke. It was terrible. Game should have been at night but espn said day time or nothing.

Crazy amount of talent on the field in this one.    9 guys from this game played in the league.    The five lineman are still active 15 years later!   To add to that one player on each team was recently named to the NFL's all decade team for 2010s.    Atkins for STA and Maurkice  Pouncey for Lakeland.   That's pretty crazy!

STA

DT Geno Atkins.   NFL all decade team DT.   Cincinnati Bengals: Geno Atkins Solidifies Hall of Fame Career

OL Sam Young

OL Marcus Gilbert

WR Leonard Hankerson

S Major Wright

Lakeland

OL Mike Pouncey

OL Maurkice Pouncey.    NFL all decade team Center.    Maurkice Pouncey Building Hall of Fame Credentials

RB Chris Rainey

S Ahmad Black

2005 was a weird year for GA...

Controversial opinion but I think Statesboro should've edged out Lowndes that year... (last time they could ever make that case)...

Statesboro and Northside WR where 4A that year but from what I've seen they where both Stacked AF

I think what hurt them was SOS... In Statesboro a case anyway...

Northside WR's only loss was to Statesboro...
