abbatt Posted October 6, 2018 Report Share Posted October 6, 2018 East st.Louis used to be a lot more disciplined under Coach Shannon than they are now. The ESL teams always have great size, speed ,high level talent......but the coaching and execution under Sunkett leave a lot to be desired. Their fundamentals are atrocious...no kicking game at all levels....extra points..kick-offs and punts.......I knew that Massilon would come back and win the game because of the adjustments their coaching staff made and their execution. I also believe that at least 5-10 penalties on ESL were bogus calls as well as at least 4-5 non-calls on Massilon.With all of that ..ESL still could have and probably should have won this game.If it had been played at ESL ...East side would have rumbled to a 2-3 TD victory. On the Ohio Yappi forums there are at least 10 comments by Ohio posters acknowledging that the refs kept Massilon in the game. Oh well....... zulu1128 Posted October 6, 2018 Report Share Posted October 6, 2018 Most of those are people who didn’t even watch the game, and just like torturing the notoriously thin-skinned Massy fans. Of the 23 penalties called against ESL, at least 15 were motion/false start/illegal shift. Probably 5-6 were sketchy...pretty close to the same number of sketchy flags against the Tigers. It was a poorly officiated game for sure, but ESL shot themselves in the foot way more than not. Still, ESL probably wins 3-4 if they play 5 times. Very talented team.
