Texasball
AUSTIN, TX - The ladies from McKinney North (Tx.) ran a new US No. 13 all-time performance in the 4x100m relay Friday night at the University Interscholastic League 5A State Championship. The Bulldogs ran a 45.09 to snag the win from Mansfield Lake Ridge who ran 45.55. Just like Port Arthur Memorial on the guy's side of the 5A state championship, McKinney North swept both the 5A sprint relays also taking the victory in the 4x200m, running 1:36.15. Both their times are new UIL 5A state meet records. So far McKinney North has won four events including London Culbreath's 10:13.68 3200m state meet record and Jania Martin's 54.59 400m dash performance. The team is on pace to break the record for most points in UIL state meet history. That record was set back in 2015 when the guys from Fort Bend Marshall scored 90 points. The Bulldogs still have London Culbreath left in the 1600m as well as their 4x400m relay team who currently holds the 2nd fastest time in class 5A. With a win in both, they would score 102 points. dan in daytona
Not that the Texas guys need any more ammunition to state their case for track sprint superiority, at least in terms of depth, but here's a little fuel for that fire. High school track season in Florida generally gets cool northern winds especially in the early months. I've been to state meets in Gainesville (U of F), Jacksonville (U of NF), Winter Park (Showalter Field), Coral Springs, and Bradenton (IMG). At the first three the running direction is north to south like most state running tracks. Starting blocks face south, finish line to the south. 100m runners generally get a push down the track. And more often then not, published wind times appear on the Low Side (wink, wink). More then once I've had a 1-3 mph northeastern breeze blow a hat off my head. Everybody, at an all-day into the night track meet loves fast times...even officials
Texasball
No body and I mean no body can explain to me how the state of Texas by itself is holding down 51 of the top 100 spots nationally in the 4x100 this far into the season. 7 of the top 10 - Including #1 and 2 17 of the top 25 28 of the top 50 again 51 of the top 100 16 teams under 41 flat and now one of them is under 40 flat The Nation has had 10,705 teams record times this year - This includes the best of the best from outside of Texas - Vs Texas who has had 1,216 teams record times this year -------------------------------------------------------- This not like the bogus national HS football rankings - This is fact

I have noticed several times over the last few years in Florida during some good meets - the wind was magically listed at 2.0 which is wind legal. Damn - Just last week in Texas we turned in a ton of heavy wind times + 6 or better in some cases. - At the end of the day, I would like to believe that everyone is playing by the rules. When, I get the opportunity to discuss Track and Field with Florida Coaches - They always seemed shocked when I show them results from TX. This late in the season southern warm winds are becoming more common, just not in Bradenton last weekend. The district and regional meets of a few weeks ago had very strong Eastern winds coming off the Atlantic. Now for the "magical winds of Florida," you wouldn't be wrong in believing that at time's some finagling does go on. And the skeptic in me doesn't think it only happens in the sunshine state See: Texas, among others. Like you know most all meets are electronically timed now, but wind indicators aren't always present and/or monitored. It takes dozens of volunteers to work a big meet properly. With many lasting more then 12 hrs., it's just not a must in many places. When Walter Dix broke the collegiate record in the 200m at the NCAA Regional in Gainesville (19.6?) I thought the wind was blowing to hard that day. But who am I to say. I've seen Gatlin, Dix, Bacey, Demps, Xavier Carter, and many others win Florida state championships. High school times might not always be legit, but they do spot the really good one's early on...Peace
golfaddict1
Marvin Bracy was invited to the Saints rookie camp this weekend. He's a former Olympian in the 100 and 4x100. He competed for USA in the World Relays just recently. He wants to give football a shot and if it doesn't pan out, he'll go back to track. He never played at FSU, opting for track. LSU is getting a good football player in the stud sprinter from Port Arthur Memorial. It's the kid who ran 20.71 200m yesterday and he runs on the relays too. Texasball
By the way, I agree with you about the wind. I am not speaking for Florida, Yet I am sure some of the meets can be trusted. In Texas you can trust State Finals in Austin, Texas Relays in Austin, All UIL Regional meets, Texas Southern Relays, I am sure some others like The Jesuit relays - Many meets here held at HS do not have wind readings... In Austin you know the wind reading very quickly at the end of each race.

golfaddict1
Can't comment on wind, but would hate to think some meets are fudging the wind indicator to a 2.0 or less to get wind legal times. That's quite lame if true. It's hard to hide speed though. Just a great display by TX relays squads. What I would like is that 39.80 vs Miramar's 4 best (with TX baton handoff coaching for a week) and raced head to head in TX. Add Calabar and let's get it on. I have 3 conf finals dvr'd so let's compare 4x100 times later Sunday or Monday. I want to watch those as if live.
